Come on over into the humble life of the Keeper of the Homestead! A little over 4 years ago, I started this little blog and people seemed to like coming around to find some encouragement in the ways of mothering, homemaking, and faith. I never expected anyone to stick around for all my many ups and downs. If you are still here, you are in for a treat! I have worked tirelessly to provide a nice platform here for you to learn and be uplifted.
I have made a lot of mistakes and took for granted a great many things in life. These choices have been some of my greatest teaching moments. I pray I can give you some helpful insight along this journey together so you can have a measure of HOPE. You might even feel you have some common ground. We all have a story and I want to hear from you as much as you are able. This will be a place unlike other blogs. I am REAL. I plan to really interact with my readers here so we can all grow together and learn to find the truest JOY in our calling to our homes and families.
For starters, let me show you around this new place. I have 5 primary categories that are super easy to find the archives of past articles that are still very helpful.
In this category, you can find all my recipes and you can feel free to download all the recipe cards for FREE on each or I also created a purchasable pdf for those that want all of them in one package.
In this category, you can find all sorts of posts that pertain to homesteading, gardening, canning, and the simple life.
This is a fun category! Lots of articles on cleaning, organization, and even etiquette.

This category is more personal. It is my little faith journal including stories of my life and biblical womanhood.
Each week I will have some posts on practical things that will be useful to you as a homemaker as well as more personal stories of encouragement. There may be times that we will be doing fun giveaway posts of different things as well. On Tuesdays, I will have a fun Talk Show which will be found on the Keeper of the Homestead Facebook Page. Sometimes there will be a guest and other times I will be answering the questions that you, the reader, send me the day before. So fun!
Tomorrows Talk Show will be about Marriage or Mothering. I have one question from a reader so far. If you have any other questions or things that you would like for me to talk about, be sure to leave a comment on this post or send me an email. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow LIVE at 10 am CST. Come. Sit. Have a cup of tea with me!

Erin, l purchased your book and can hardly put it down. It would make a fantastic Bible Study or just a Book Study!
Oh, thank you so much for this encouragement! I one day want to make a study book and video to go with so that women can use it with their study groups. It would be a fun study for any group to go through as it is such a precious calling for women to be that virtuous woman. Have a very blessed day, Shirley!
Erin,
Not at all critical, but I am confused. I read your article in Above Rubies: They Still Need Us and understood from your comments about only having so much in your pitcher and choosing purposely which cups to pour into that you were saying your business interfered with being available to family. Again, I am not being critical at all. I struggle all the time with trying to find time to invest into a business I want to develop and being continually available to my husband and the 6 of our 13 children who still live at home. My youngest at home is 6 and my oldest 19. I get really confused about whether I should be a full time mom and wife, part time business builder, or where it all fits together. I have been encouraged often by your articles even though I don’t follow your blog regularly. I have decided that one place I can find some time is to stop following so many other blogs. Anyway, would love to hear your thoughts on this, and PLEASE don’t take it that I am coming across critically, I am just trying to understand how to do everything I feel like I should be doing.
My website is temporarily on hold as I am working on taking it a new direction, but you are welcome to look at it if you would like.
So great to hear your heart Jeanine and I would love to clarify. I sure do not feel you come across in any critical manner as your question is so valid. You really have to seek the Lord and find what type of balance you can find in your life. Time is so precious and to do your calling well, you must pour into that first. If there is time left over, then you see if you have extra to do other things. Reading blogs is something that you can put on the back burner, I am not offended. I completely understand. When you have a question, or need help, the internet has a wide range of people out there that may have done a post, or video that might encourage you when you need it most. You do not have to read each day your many blogs, you can hop on or subscribe to those of interest and if you ever see a post from someone that seems to hit home, you can hop on to their blog and have a little skim read. Sometimes God can use something that someone has gone through to reach you in a particular situation. Pouring into extra business endeavors is a lot to bite off. It can be done with a large family, but you have to plan out your day so that it would never take your heart away from what matters most. Most people who pursue riches never get satisfied. The more they acquire, the more they want. It can be a very unhealthy distraction for some. Others have found no value in money, they do what they do and can do it without obsession. The more money they get the more they give and the family does the work together. I have seen both types. I have been able to have business with my photography, and it never impeded on my family life. I was able to organize my time so that I could work in the wee hours of the morning or during nap times. I still could do my housework, play, homeschooling, cooking, etc. My Network marketing business was so full time when I acquired a larger team and I felt I was always on call. I had to prove myself to my team each day and the work had to be done during the day, calls would have to be done with prospects at various times that would take me out of my normal schedule of family time. I was ruled by it rather than free to have family time. Once I stopped pursuing the ranks, I felt immediate freedom. I felt like I could take a call when it fit into the day rather than desperately trying to please each person. I could help those that needed help rather than trying to recruit all day long and pursue people like that. It was not me and it did not fit into my precious family life. If you have something that can fit well and you do not feel pressured, stressed and overwhelmed, then you have found a great treasure. I hope this helps clarify. God bless, dear friend!
I’m excited about the “new” blog!! I so enjoy reading your posts! ☺️ Looking forward to the posts ahead! Blessings to you, my friend!!
Awww, thank you so much Christy! It means so much to me to know you are enjoying my new blog posts. God is so faithful and good. I am so glad to hear from you again.
Erin, I am sooo proud of you ! You are doing what I should have done , sometime during my 60 years of being a stay at home Mom. We have 3 adult boys that kept me busy while my husband worked the night shift so we could afford for me to be home. I don’t regret a second of it.
I wrote my 60 years memoir to give my husband for our ’60 Year Anniversary’. I loved doing that. Who knows I might get around to publishing it. I’m so looking forward to following you.
Congratulations !
Wow, Shirley! I would love to see a copy of that story! I bet I could learn so much from your heart. What a blessing! Thank you so much for your comment! You are a blessing!
I’ve been around for a long time now, and I continue to look forward to reading what you share!
