Fall Fun Activities

There are many things you can do to enjoy your fall experience.  When I was a child, I made all kinds of crafts and art projects that were so fun.  These are things I did with my children when they were small.  I will share our favorite project with you today.

The Fall Scene…

Supplies needed:

  • One sheet of construction paper.  You can use dark blue if you want it to look like a night scene, light blue for sunny day, and white for a foggy day.
  • scissors
  • old kitchen sponge or scrubbing pad
  • finger paints.  Orange, red, and yellow

  • a paper plate for the paint

  • drinking straw
  • water
  • brown or black paint

First, place the paper in front of your child.  Cut up the sponge into little 1 inch squares.
Squeeze the different paints on to different plates and place tiny sponges on each color.
Let the children have fun stamping their paper with different colored leaves.  Direct them to put a lot on the bottom of the page for leaves that are on the ground and a thinner amount where they tree tops will be, like this…
Take a bit of brown or black paint and mix in some water so it is still very dark but is watery.  Put 3 or 4 dots of watery brown paint on the bottom of the paper.  Add a little water to each drop of paint if it will not spread freely.
Using their drinking straw, have the children blow the paint upward on the page to form pretty tree trunks and limbs.  That is the most fun because you never know what kind of lines you will get.  Super fun!

Finally, let the pictures dry, sign their name and age.  Hang up in your home as pretty fall art. Put them together to make a grand forest of color.

I received a great submission from one of my readers that I want to share with all of you,
Top autumn neighborhood games to play with kids
by Shanon Gilborg
The fall is the best time to get out and enjoy the last warm days before the arrival of the cold winter. It doesn’t matter how old you are, it is never too late to play with your friends and even organize some fun games in which can participate all kids from your neighborhood. We all keep some great memories from our childhood, when we gathered with all of our friends and played games day and night. Now is the perfect time to create some new memories, whether it is with your own children or with those who live close to you.

The lower temperatures during the fall shouldn’t stop you from going outside and enjoying the days.  If you have children, you know that it will be simply impossible to keep them inside all the time, so just think of a fun activity which you can all do together as a family. Make sure, however, that you are prepared for a major cleaning later. The fall is known with its rainy days, after which is very easy to cover yourself with mud. That, however, is not enough reason to give up on playing games outside. Just make sure that you have enough strength for the cleaning when you get home later.

You don’t have to come up with very complicated games for you and the neighborhood kinds. The truth is that you can have fun playing even with a simple ball. As long as you are all together, you can be certain that you will all have a great day. So, call as many kids as you can and try some of the games which we’ve selected for you.

Bоwling for kids – Everyone likes bowling, which makes it the perfect game you can share with the kids from the neighborhood or if you have a big family, all of your children. You can make your own improvised bowling competitions but instead of real balls, you can use an ordinary ball or everything else that comes to your mind. You can even use a couple of rolls of toilet paper which will make the game very interesting. The improvised bowling is a very fun game in which can participate many people and you can even split into different teams.

Leaf drawing – You can play this game either at home or outside, the choice is entirely yours. All you need is a pile of bigger leafs in various colors, the shape of which the kids can outline on a piece of paper or directly on the road with chalk. The one who manages to draw most leafs in a short period of time will receive a prize.

Throwing rings – This is yet another fun game which can be played any time and by as many people as you like. The rules are simple – the person who manages to put most rings on the aim wins the competition. You can use almost any kind of object for the aiming.

Obstacle races – Last but not least, organizing obstacle races in the park or even in your back yard can be a lot of fun. Here can also participate as many people as you want and the obstacles can be made of leaves. Putting piles of them on particular places will make the race very interesting, as every participant will have to jump over them. It will be great, if you play this game in your back yard because, as a bonus, you will be able to clean the whole area from the fallen leaves.

The fall is a season which you can enjoy in many ways. Playing in the park with your pet or with the kids from your neighborhood is the best way to welcome the season and to get some exercise before the official arrival of the winter.

Table Setting by Erin Harrison (Taken from Living Virtuously book)
First things first: There is a proper way to set the table. This has somehow been made optional in our modern culture, but 50 years ago you would have made a fool of yourself if you did not place the utensils in the correct order. Everything has order. There is a place for everything needed in a meal. Try this just for fun sometime. When we have Thanksgiving Dinner at our home, I enjoy getting out Grandma’s old china dishes. You can find really pretty, old china dishes at thrift stores for very little money. They sell them for less because, oftentimes, several of the dishes from the set are missing.

Formal place setting
Before placing the dishes, you need to cover the table with a linen tablecloth (or whatever you may have available). Table linens are traditional in setting for a dinner party. You see them more commonly at fancy restaurants and wedding banquets. Now place your dishes in the proper order. A large dinner napkin is folded in half, with the fold facing your body. A luncheon napkin should be opened completely. All tableware is placed about 1½ inches from the edge of the table.
Simplify the setting to one spoon and one fork if you like.

Since we are having a big group, we are using paper plates, plastic spoons and forks, and paper cups.  Anything to make a lighter load.  Usually, I do the formal setting when there is less people to serve.  It truly is pretty when it is all set up.  This year, my friend Beth is coming to help cook and decorate the day before.  I am sure we will have fun with all of our girls making Thanksgiving really special.

Decorate the tables with leaves, pine cones, pumpkins, corn, and/or candles.  The kids can have fun setting out the pretty decorations and the fancy place setting.

Have the kids prepare a bible verse about being thankful or a story about what they are thankful for.  It is a great reminder of all the good things of life.  Sharing them with others is even better.  I will be praying you all have a blessed Thanksgiving with your family.
