Setting the Captives Free

 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31

My heart is so heavy.  Our judicial system is so corrupt.  Yesterday my sweet friends, Chris and Suzanne, after nearly two years of fighting to get their children back, (to read my original post to get the full story… https://keeperofthehomestead.com/blog/urgent-prayer-request) were sentenced to 2 years in jail.  With the termination trial set for the end of this month, their strategy to lock them up so they will be absent to fight for the children to be returned has been successful.  If they are in jail, they terminate forever any chance and it is absolutely evil.  Shocking. Those 7 children are also very much captives, in prison and held away from the only family that knows how to love unconditionally.  Our God is a God that can set captives free…

Suzanne was just here visiting at my home last week and we were able to spend so much wonderful time in fellowship.  As we reflected on our journeys, we cried as we realized God’s hand in our lives through adversity.  We have both been through some dry and thirsty lands to find the well of water that springs forth from the hand of God.  We sit at the well and we wait on the Lord to fill us, pouring living waters over us.  I did not want her to go.  She is a soul sister to me.  She is a Mom HERO!  Talk about laying your life down for your children.  That’s Suzanne!  This woman is wearing a cape and a crown for all her dedication and love.

Her son was celebrating his engagement to a beautiful, precious friend of mine.  I took their photos and threw a party for them with local friends.

We all sat in awe of God’s goodness to bring two precious souls together who will one day start a family.  And family is rare.  Today, people live separate lives, they are so disconnected and families are broken.  Motherhood, adoption, and marriage are attacked.  It is disgusting.  Those of us who taste of the freedom of purpose that God gives us in being a mother, being happily married, are in the minority.  The Seagrens are among those that were actually amazing parents, in the ministry of adoption, and have a beautiful marriage and family life.  They are the among the few who open their homes to give children a chance to be a part of a loving family.  It is not easy, in fact, it is difficult.  When you sign up for foster care and adoption, you often sign up to deal with some pretty outrageous persecution.  You are held under the microscope of a corrupt system. The children you fight to save will reject you oftentimes.  It’s hard but when you sign up for it, you know there is a bigger purpose.  You will go to the ends of the earth to nurture, love, and protect those that God brings to your home.  And we are adopted into God’s family.  We can be just as difficult, but God keeps his arms open, He blesses, and He has an unlimited amount of love and patience.

After all the battles, the long nights, the sorrow, and pain, they had this sweet ray of sunshine celebrating a new love for their son. They are among those that held fast to hope.  All the trumpets of joy are quieted as we sit in silence wondering why good people are so unjustly accused.  Even worse, REAL crimes go unpunished everyday.  People get let off the hook for terrible things.  We all stand together against the enemy that is against family—against the core of Christianity.  This is an assault on the church—on humanity. They are using their situation to wave a stick at all of us, that we might be next.  The world is going crazy.  We live in a society that calls black white and white black.  Where good is demonized and evil is colored up in pretty rainbows.  The media loves to put us down and people are fooled into thinking they need to march down the streets in protest.  They do not realize they might just be handing in more of their God given freedoms.  I can’t even watch most news networks because it makes me sick.  The lies, the programming, the way they try to brainwash people to believe that everything evil is normal all the while they push their agenda on us.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil
is for good men to do nothing.”

― Edmund Burke.

We need to stand together and pray against those that want to take children away from good parents and break up homes.  Those that attack Christianity, who are intolerant of our beliefs all the while they cry out for tolerance to theirs.  I have all the room in the world to talk.  I was abused and I know how evil can get brushed under the rug—most abusers are smart enough to hide their tracks.  The real evil is right under your nose and those that are really abusing their children gloss it all over and excuse it.  Children who are truly abused, are afraid to tell, afraid to go against their family because they know they will pay for it.  I had to go against my family and I felt all alone for a time.  It was the most difficult thing to do as a child.

I would never abuse my children.  NEVER.  They are safe in my home with loving parents.   We chose to homeschool to give our children a safe place to learn and mature.  They have lots of friends who do the same.  They get to learn music, art, sports, and all the others things they are interested in.

Our children get to learn the truth about history, not a bunch of lies where political agenda is pushed. I also teach my children to find their own way.  I don’t force my agenda on them.  I let them have opinions and encourage them to think for themselves.  Society does not want people to think for themselves anymore, they want people to be controlled and think they way they chose for you by manipulating truth. However, I want my children to believe because they choose to believe not because I told them so.  Every generation has to find their own salvation.  Just like the Samaratin woman at the well.  He asked her for a drink yet offered to give her the water that is eternal.  Jesus wants to fill all of us who are thirsty in our souls.  Our children need to thirst and hunger for HIM.  They need to have their own revival.

Jesus told her everything about her life and she believed he was the Christ.  She went and told her friends and many of them believed because of what she said.  The next part is what stuck out to me…they went to hear Jesus for themselves because we all have to have a REAL encounter, we can’t just go by what others say.

“And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ,
the Saviour of the world.”
John 4:42

I would hate being a sheep led to the slaughter.  I wont do it.  I wont believe all that is in the news.  I will look up everything myself.  I am not some spoon fed person, relying on face value.  I dig deeper.  My mind is the kind that is not satisfied with the status quo.  I am not satisfied with nominal Christianity.  Who wants to be ordinary?  I sure do not!  I serve an Extraordinary GOD!  I will not march to the beat of pop culture.  I will stand on truth even if I am the only one standing.  I will worship Jesus to my last breath and I know there is not one wasted trial.  Not one hardship that God can’t use to His glory.  This is nothing new.  Through the ages true believers have been persecuted without cause.  God is bigger than prison bars and walls.  He is able to right the wrongs.

When you sit and feel discouraged about your lot, remember those that have it way worse than you.  The Seagrens might be locked up in prison, but many of you have put yourselves in prison to your circumstances, your past, or your own self destructive thought patterns.  I know Chris and Suzanne might be locked up, but I do know that they will find a way to worship God even in chains.  God has a plan to set you all free as well.

God is real.  I know he is able to set the captives free!  Just like Paul and Silas were broken free from prison, lets believe together in prayer that God is able to bring the Seagrens out of the prison and to give them their children back.  It will take a miracle, but our God is a God of miracles.  A God who can move mountains.  Let us join together in prayer for this family!

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty them that are bruised”

Luke 4:18

  1. I will be lifting this family up in prayers! This story of such a beautiful family touches my heart. Please keep us updated with this family and if there are needs for this family. The Lord hears our prayers for them!

  2. Erin, my name is Nancy Schmidt. My daughter, Bethany, told me a bit about this family and asked us, her family, to pray for them. So we will be praying here in Wyoming! We will pass along this request to our friends/church here. We know God is able and although we don’t know his will in all this yet, we know it will be ultimately good- “He makes ALL things beautiful in His time.” (Eccl 3:11) Blessings to you and yours.

    1. So thankful for your prayers, Nancy! This family sure needs them. I hope I can soon have a prison address to post so people could write to them as well.

  3. From reading both posts on this, it really sounds like they are being penalized for giving them better than average care and nutrition. Has there been any news coverage of this? They could use some.

    Sounds like they need a good lawyer who has experience with this kind of case.

    Has anyone started a GoFundMe page to help with the legal costs?

    1. Yes, there is FALSE coverage. They totally demonized this precious family like the media often does. It is really sad. The trouble is that they were trying to heal them naturally without direction from doctors, eliminating certain dietary things that are trigger foods. It all came out when one of the children found food that causes his autism to FLARE, and then ran away because he was not in his right mind, when they found him, he was hungry, of course. And they take all the children based on investigation, the children before they were with this family were fed junk food so they of course missed that food and when questioned, they would say, they never feed them x y z. So tragic. They actually seem to coax the children from CPS to say all kinds of things that make it seem WAY worse based on a bunch of half truths and outright lies. Kansas is the state, you can look it up, but trust me, it is all propaganda, this family has done NOTHING wrong.

  4. Praying! Sometimes God doesn’t save us out of situations, but through them. Our pastor was preaching on the story of Lazarus recently. There is a greater work going on here. May God be glorified!

    1. Thank you Anna for your precious prayers! I know it. God sometimes allows things for a greater purpose even when we just can’t understand, I know deep down God is at work! Yes, I know God will find a way for them and I know He will be glorified! ~Erin

  5. I too will be praying for a miracle. This hits so close to home and is so sad. BUT GOD is greater and He sees and knows. We cry out to Him for deliverance and salvation. Thank you for sharing your heart. We must stand together in these trying times.

    O, my dear sister! I don’t know you personally but as a believer in our Lord, we are sisters in Christ! My heart is breaking for this family and precious children. I just saw this story on my timeline and read the full story you had wrote a year ago. We too are homesteaders, homeschoolers, and parents who utmost desire is to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. I will be passing this story along to the other sisters in our church and I know this sweet family will be lifted up in fervent prayer. When one of our members hurt, we all hurt! We cannot wrap our minds around why such things happen but our God is faithful and we can rest in knowing He is sovereign and His plans are higher than ours. He has not forsaken us. Please if there is anything we as fellow brothers and sisters can do to help or offer assistance will you please let us know. Could I ask what state this has occurred in? My name is Sheeanah Puryear from East Tennessee. Thank you for your faithfulness and keep pressing on, fighting for the Truth! We fight with you❤️
