Fixing our Water Line

Spring on the homestead has been full of adventure.  We have been getting ready for the summer pasture.  Our fields were allowed to grow up in weeds like crazy so Mark wanted to plow it up and plant some great pasture grass in there.

We had a tree line that was blocking our garden and pasture area so he hired a man with a bull dozer to pull the trees out.  As the dozer was pulling and shoving trees it pulled up and completely destroyed our water line that supplies our water from the mountain spring.

The line was not done properly to start with.  The hippies in the early 1980s stuck it barely under the ground in some places using what ever they could find that was cheap or used.  When we saw the pipe, we noticed right away that there were holes and duct tape all over the place which was kinda funny!  That is what you call a redneck water system!

Thankfully, we live on a year round creek!  We were out of water for about 24 hours.  Our good old pioneer skills came in handy!  We hauled buckets of water to the home from the creek which is very very clear water, for washing hands, flushing the toilet, and filtering for drinking.  It was fun!

He had to rent a trenching machine to dig the path to put the 400 feet of tubing to get the water from the mountain to the house.  All gravity fed!  Amazing really!

Here is a video I shot during the process.  I think you would find it very interesting how Mark fixed our water situation!

  1. Awsome.
    You look so beautiful.
Lovely how you appreciate water in your house. We take it for granted.
So many blessings in life gets lost in a rich world.
There was a time we lived without electricity and the generator could run only for an hour at night. After three months we at last got electricity. It was like the biggest gift one can ask for.
    God bless.
