Cleaning Tornados

This following post is written by my friend, Daisy Farrales.  She just moved here from San Diego and has four lovely children.  When I was writing my book, Living Virtuously, I asked her to submit a few things into the book.  She sent three stories, two of which are being published in my book.  Sadly, I did not have enough pages to fit the third story which was really good about cleaning the clutter with your kids.

Her story is short, sweet, and to the point.  I completely agree with less clutter giving us a clearer mind.  Here is her lovely story about how she and her children keep the clutter to the minimum…

Many families have scheduled days to clean different rooms in the house, but there’s just areas in the house that tend to collect clutter where things are out of place.  Elisabeth Elliot said it well. “A house that is cluttered is usually lived in by people whose minds are also cluttered, who need to simplify their lives. This begins with simplifying and clarifying their thinking. Mind and life need to be freed from the ‘disorder of the unnecessary.”

To keep from spending a lot of time clearing clutter, we become the Cleaning Tornadoes!  We put on a five-minute timer and race around the room to see if we can put everything away before the timer goes off.

On your mark, get set, go!  The children have fun clearing and are usually done way before time is up.  The room is cleared and we can spend the day with a clearer mind.
