A Lamb is Born

As our family was remembering the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, a perfect spotless white lamb was born to Megan’s ewe.  We never kept sheep before so this was a major event for the family.  We were planning to shear the sheep soon because we thought they would lamb in May.  It weighs no more than 2 pounds.  Megan named him Joshua.  He is tiny and needs some intervention right now.  The children are helping the lamb feed on its mother because its tiny head cannot reach its mother’s milk.  What a task it is to be a good shepherd, but we are excited about the journey.

It reminded us of our Savior because he was OUR passover lamb.  Just like in Egypt when the Israelites placed the blood of the lamb over there doorposts so the wrath of God would Pass Over, when we are under the blood of Christ by accepting His sacrifice in place of the punishment we deserve, God’s wrath will pass over us.   Isn’t that wonderful!  We can be safe and secure as long as we are under the blood.  That takes faith to believe something that seems so impossible.  It is impossible for us to save ourselves or for us to ever be good enough.  Thank God that He has provided a way for us to come unto Him.  There is only one way, only through Jesus Christ’s shed blood on the cross.  God’s plan is simple but sometimes the simple things seem foolish to them that are confident in their own goodness.  In this present age, people do not need a savior.  They can takes a prescription drug if they are depressed, they can get the next fix to lift their spirits.  If you watch TV, it will keep you entertained–Hollywood has enough excitement, romance, emotion to keep people pacified for awhile.  But it will not bring true peace, true joy that can only come with knowing the Risen God.  We serve a LIVING GOD, we love Him, we want to follow Him unto truth.  He is our Shepherd, we hear his voice and we Follow Him.  As we become shepherds to our new sheep, we can get a glimpse of how God teaches us and gently leads us along the way.  As long as we stay near our shepherd we are safe from harm.  Danger lurks for the lost sheep.  If a sheep has strayed away from the shepherd he is very vulnerable to the attack of the wolves.  Wolves prey on the lone sheep that is away from the protection of its flock and shepherd.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more than, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.  And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:  For until the law sin was in the world:  but sin is not imputed when there is no law.  Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.  But not as the offence, so also is the Free Gift.  For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.  And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift:  for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.  For if by one man’s offences death reigned by one:  much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.  Therefore as by the offence OF ONE judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness OF ONE the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.  For as by ONE MAN’S disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of ONE shall many be made righteous.  Moreover the law entered that the offence might abound.  But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:  That as sin hath reigned unto DEATH, even so might GRACE reign through righteousness unto eternal LIFE by Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Romans 5:8-21
