I have not had a chance to update on my blog because life has given us a curve ball. We always recognize that life is fragile and that God is also in control. There has been a lot going on. I just got back from Kansas where I was sharing my story of my life with others. I will give updates later because right now, my daughter, Megan is very ill and I just wanted to reach out to my readers, let you know what is going on and ask for your prayers.
2 weeks ago… Megan was bitten by a brown recluse spider which was treated promptly and all the symptoms went away. At the same time she had a bug bit in the middle of her forehead. After the initial brown recluse bite was taken care of, the bump on the head went down.
On week later the bump on her forehead came back and she started to get swelling on her right side of her face. No rash. Just fever. We took her in 2 times to an urgent care locally. They put her on amoxicillin and then doxycyclene. The fevers kept worsening and then a dark blotchy rash all over her body. We were doing all the natural things like charcoal poultices, hot and cold compresses, fluids, melelueka oils, and other natural things to draw out infections. She sleeps all the time and when we brought her to Vanderbilt hospital ER, they put her on IV for dehydration. They also have run dozens of tests along with ultra sounds scans, x rays and other things like that.
When the ER doctor realized that she did not know what was going on, they brought in the big guns. They had the infectious disease specialists examine her and do more testing. They were quite concerned but did not think the symptoms followed any certain criteria in order to pinpoint a diagnosis. After 11 hours in the ER, they did send us home when she was over 102 fever but allowed us to go home after her heart rate returned to a normal range. Her heart rate was 136 even while sleeping so that was one of the main concerns and it went on for about 6 -8 hours like that. Thankfully the heart rate is normal now.
Today I spoke over the phone with the disease specialists and they are still running more labs and just told us to hang tight until those come back. They tell me to keep the fevers down but that has been a challenge. She is still over 102 even with tylenol. The advil seems to help more. Once in a while the fever does become normal. I give her benedryl as well for the swelling.
Besides that, people have reached out and gave us so much helpful information and good clues and this is all very interesting. I spoke with a very prominent naturalistic doctor in CA today and he said that it was a bacteria carried by the insect that is spreading into her entire body, and that if we do not get it under control, it could also get into her vital organs.
Good news is, that he said oregano caps. I just drip the oregano into capsules and give her that. It is a natural powerful antibiotic! That and I finally started her on BioCleanse, Probio5, and Ease to combat the bacteria in her body. She is already responding. She has an appointment with the infectious disease specialists in the morning. Every afternoon she has been improving.
She is still doing very badly, I just checked her and she was burning up with 103.1, also bright red rashes and a swollen face. Some of the spots seem to look like bruises, as they are flush with the skin and it hurts to touch them. No itching. She says she can’t stand up because it affects her vision and she becomes dizzy. She slept all day as well. The pattern has been that she has a time each day where the fever goes down, but toward nightfall it worsens.
We are praying we get more answers by the morning. I will surely keep you up to date on her prognosis.
I know your prayers are being heard. It is tremendous to our family the amount of prayers, love and support we have been getting through this strange crisis. Thank you all so much for taking the time, effort to give of your prayers toward our daughter. God bless each of you. Here are a few photos of the rash she has been experiencing…
